Master Defense: Congratulations to Tamara Eldirani on Her Remarkable Achievement

We are delighted to announce that Tamara Eldirani has successfully defended her Master’s thesis in Biomedical Sciences at Maastricht University, conducted in collaboration with the University of Coimbra.

Her thesis, entitled “Investigating the Role of miRNA-5692c in Angiogenesis and Collagen Remodeling During Skin Injury: Implications for Enhanced Skin Wound Healing Therapies”, was defended in 20th June 2025, marking the successful conclusion of her Master’s degree.

Tamara’s research explored the therapeutic potential of miRNA-5692c in enhancing skin wound healing, with a particular focus on angiogenesis and collagen maturation. Using both in vitro and ex vivo human models, her findings demonstrated that miRNA-5692c significantly promotes endothelial cell migration and proliferation, regulated vascularization, and balanced extracellular matrix remodeling - all of which point toward its promise as a novel therapeutic strategy for chronic wound treatment.

This work was supervised by Prof. Lorenzo Moroni (Maastricht University), and by Dr. Hugo Fernandes and Dra. Cristina Blanco Elices, both from the Multidisciplinary Institute of Aging (MIA-Portugal), whose guidance and mentorship were instrumental to the success of this project.

We warmly congratulate Tamara on this outstanding achievement and wish her continued success in her future scientific endeavors.
