Driving Regeneration Through Innovation

The Advanced Cell Technology Laboratory (ACT Lab) is a research group at the Multidisciplinary Institute of Ageing (MIA-Portugal), University of Coimbra. The ACT Lab is dedicated to advancing regenerative medicine through the development of innovative cell-based technologies aimed at promoting healthy ageing.

Our multidisciplinary team integrates expertise in bioengineering, tissue engineering, cellular and molecular biology and cell metabolism with the goal of understanding and and controlling the cellular and molecular mechanisms that govern ageing and regeneration.
Mission
Our mission is to leverage the principles of cell biology and regenerative processes to develop innovative strategies that restore tissue function, delay aging, and enhance healthspan through translational research.
Vision
Our vision is to drive the future of regenerative medicine through innovative cell-centric research and bioengineering, translating fundamental discoveries into transformative therapies that address age-related conditions and restore tissue function for a healthier society.
Our Approach
The ACT Lab employs a cell-centric approach, creating advanced cellular disease models and employing high-throughput screening technologies and advanced molecular profiling to identify new molecular targets. Our translational approach bridges fundamental discovery with clinical application.
Values
At the ACT Lab, our work is guided by a core set of values that underpin everything we do.
