Two researchers from the ACT Lab, Cláudia Deus and Sandra Pinhanços, participated in the Portuguese Congress of Diabetology, which took place in Vilamoura from 5 to 7 March 2026. The congress brought together clinicians and researchers from across the country to discuss the latest advances in diabetes research, prevention, and treatment.
During the meeting, Cláudia Deus presented a poster entitled “Papel do miRNA-642-3p na disfunção metabólica e mitocondrial induzida pela glucolipotoxicidade em células pancreáticas.” The work explores the role of miRNA-642-3p in the metabolic and mitochondrial dysfunction triggered by glucolipotoxic conditions in pancreatic cells.
Sandra Pinhanços contributed to the scientific program with an oral presentation titled “miRNAs como guardiões das células β contra a glucolipotoxicidade.” Her presentation highlighted the protective role of microRNAs in safeguarding pancreatic β-cells against glucolipotoxic stress.
The participation of ACT Lab researchers in this national meeting reflects the group’s ongoing commitment to advancing knowledge on metabolic dysfunction and pancreatic β-cell biology in the context of diabetes.
