Sandra Pinhanços engaged with primary school students to raise awareness about obesity and highlight the role of scientific research.
To mark the Portuguese National Day Against Obesity, celebrated on 23rd of May , Sandra Pinhanços, researcher at the ACT Lab, visited Agrupamento de Escolas Marquês de Marialva, in Cantanhede, to take part in a science outreach initiative organized in collaboration with the Portuguese Association Against Childhood Obesity (APCOI).
During the visit, Sandra read the children's book “Mom, What is Obesity?” to three classes of 7-year-old students, introducing the topic of obesity in an engaging and age-appropriate way.
As an obesity researcher, she also shared what everyday life in a research laboratory looks like and explained how scientific research contributes to a better understanding of obesity and its associated health challenges.
The initiative provided a valuable opportunity to inspire scientific curiosity among young students while promoting healthy lifestyle awareness through education and dialogue.
